West Seattle High School’s Counseling Team has over 25 years of combined experience offered to “Wildcat” students. Four full-time counselors serve all students at West Seattle High School. Student assignment with counselor is determined by the first letter of their last name.

West Seattle Counseling Department offers each student an individualized and comprehensive high school and beyond plan including course selection, academic achievement, progress toward meeting graduation requirements, personal and social competencies, and post-secondary and career options and planning. Westside’s counselors are always looking forward to meeting with families to provide support and offer community resources.

Mallory Neuman, Department Chair, Last Names K – P
Mallory graduated from the University of Tennessee (B.S.) and the University of Georgia (M.Ed in School Counseling).  She is in her 8th year as a school counselor, and prior to West Seattle she worked at high schools in Knoxville, TN and the San Francisco Bay Area.  She is trained in Yoga Calm and Mindfulness, and especially enjoys teaching high schoolers coping skills to manage stress and anxiety.

Annie Zhou, Last Names A – D
Annie Zhou grew up in New York City and received her B.A. in psychology at SUNY Geneseo in upstate New York. She taught English in Japan, China, and to international students at Bellevue College. She moved to Seattle in 2008 and received an M.A. in School Counseling from Seattle University. The last four years, she counseled at Juanita High School. She is excited to join the team at West Seattle High School. Ms. Zhou enjoys the one-on-one time with students, providing an ear to their concerns and a sounding board to their ideas. 

Erica Nguyen, Last Names E – J
A life-long Seattle native, Erica grew up near White Center and attended Chief Sealth High School. She went on to graduate from the University of Washington (B.A. in American Ethnic Studies) and Seattle University (M.A.Ed. in School Counseling). She spent three years in college access work, supporting low-income students at her former high school and helped them in earning over $1.5 million in scholarships and grants. For the past few years, Erica has worked at West Seattle High School as a tutor in supporting students’ academics and track to graduation. Erica enjoys helping students figure out their post-high school plans, whether that’s a 4-year or 2-year college, the workforce, a gap year, and more!
